He might be the world No.1, but Scottie Scheffler has channeled his inner weekend golfer at The Open.

The drive went just 176 yards into the native area, leaving Scheffler with 281 yards.

That’s when playing partner Daniel Brown and his caddie had to take cover. With a wayward approach into the 459-yard par-4, Scheffler almost struck the pair.

In the end, Scheffler holed out for a double bogey six, taking his final score back to one-under-par and a tie for seventh place alongside Jon Rahm and Sungjae Im.

There was more drama on the final hole, as Brown made bogey. It got Australian Adam Scott, who was T11, into a share of tenth place.

Those finishing inside the top ten on the west coast of Scotland guarantee a place in next year’s Open at Royal Portrush.

So, Scott, Brown and Englishman Matthew Jordan punched their tickets.

Shortly after, Xander Schauffele was crowned the 2024 Champion Golfer of the Year.
