Hideki Matsuyama has one of the most reliable swings in the world, so who is his coach?

Matsuyama, who turned pro in 2013, has become one of the best players in the game thanks to the consistency of his move.

He’s picked up well over a dozen wins around the world and a Green Jacket – after winning the 2021 Masters.

Formerly the world No.2, here’s a bit more on the man Matsuyama calls his coach…

• Who is Hideki Matsuyama’s caddie?

• Who is Hideki Matsuyama’s wife?

The Japanese star currently works with a coach named Mikihito Kuromiya.

It appears that the duo teamed up at the beginning of 2024, when the PGA Tour season started at The Sentry, in Hawaii.

Matsuyama was pictured working with Kuromiya at Kapalua resort.

According to the coach’s Instagram account, he is a full swing coach and owns the Kuromiya Golf Academy in his native Japan.

He’s posted pictures working with several players as they prepare for championships around the world.

Matsuyama and his coach were in the headlines in the summer of 2024 as the pair – as well as Matsuyama’s caddie – were robbed.

He told Golf Digest Japan that his wallet was stolen, while the passports and visas of his caddie, Shota Hayato, and his coach were also taken.

“I’ve forgotten it completely. It’s not even an issue now,” Matsuyama said through an interpreter at the FedEx St Jude Championship. “It was an unfortunate situation.

“Luckily, I only lost my wallet, but Shota, my caddie, and the coach, lost their passports, and we’re trying hard now to get their visas back in line, and hopefully they can join us as a team as soon as possible.”

• Who is Sergio Garcia’s coach?

Meanwhile, Matsuyama worked with a second coach whilst at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

Shigeki Maruyama paid close attention to Matsuyama and his fellow Japanese star Keita Nakajima as a team coach.

Born in 1992, Maruyama is known as the ‘Smiling Assassin’, for always having a smile on his face.

He was one of the leading players on the Japan Golf Tour at the start of his career before earning a PGA Tour card.

The coach went on to win three titles on the American circuit and won all five of his matches in the 1998 Presidents Cup.

In winning at Augusta, Matsuyama became the first Japanese golfer to win a men’s major championship.

And helping him to the green jacket was a coach he employed at the start of the year, Hidenori Mezawa.

“This year’s been a struggle,” he said after the third round of the Masters.

“Haven’t really played my best. The last three years, you know, there’s been different probably reasons why I haven’t been able to win.

“But this year, starting early in the year, I have a coach with me now from Japan. It’s been a great help, a great benefit.”
