He is a former world No.1 and major winner, so who is Jason Day’s coach?
Jason Day – known for turning heads on the golf course in his Malbon outfits – is one of the most esteemed golfers of his generation.
Born in Queensland in 1987, Day turned professional in July 2006 and has since won multiple PGA Tour titles, including a PGA Championship.
But who is behind the swing that has helped Day reach the top?
Jason Day’s coach
In 2024, Jason Day relies on trusted coach Chris Como to shape his game.
Recognised as one of the world’s leading teachers, Como has a unique background and blends traditional instruction with cutting edge science.
He spent the initial stages of his career learning from the likes of Hank Haney and David Leadbetter before completing a Masters degree in Biomechanics.
Since then, he has worked with some of the best players in the professional game, including Tiger Woods, Jason Day, Bryson DeChambeau and Trevor Immelman. He has also been crucial in Xander Schauffele’s rise to becoming a major champion.
According to his website, his philosophy is: “to create personalised instructional programs drawing from a variety of resources, tailored to address each individual’s golf and wellness goals.”
Day began working with Como in 2020 after a chance encounter and has revitalised his career.
“I remember coming out of that meeting with Chris and thinking, ‘There’s something about Chris’,” Day said.
• Who is Rickie Fowler’s caddie?
“He’s very quiet, listens very intently, but you could tell that he knew a lot about the game and knew it at a deeper level, what the club should be doing.
“There was just something about him that drew me to him, so I just knew when I talked to him about the golf swing that he was very switched on.”
Since working together, Day has reworked his swing, shot back up the world rankings and even won his first PGA Tour title in 2023 after a five-year drought.
Before working with Como, Day teamed up with coach Colin Swatton. However, after 20 years together, the pair parted ways in 2020.
Swatton took Day under his wing as a 12-year-old and the duo enjoyed immeasurable success. Day even described his former coach as a ‘father-figure’.
But ahead of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St Jude Invitational, he told the PGA Tour website: “It’s been a long and successful road working with Col.
“I have just decided I want to make a change and work on my own as it pertains to my golf swing.”
Meanwhile, Jason Day also has a performance coach in the shape of Jason Goldsmith.
