Without a doubt, Nick Dunlap is one of the hottest prospects in professional golf. So, who is his caddie?

That would be Hunter Hamrick – a man Dunlap knows well from his time at college.

The pair have worked together for a few years now, and when Dunlap left the University of Alabama, his caddie followed him.

It’s been quite the start to life on tour for the American, so here’s some more info on the partnership and the man Dunlap calls his caddie.

As a promising amateur, Dunlap finished his college career by winning the US Amateur in 2023, defeating the likes of Gordon Sargent and Neal Shipley in match play.

Only a few months later, he earned a sponsor exemption to play in The American Express on the PGA Tour. Incredibly, Dunlap won the event.

In doing so, he became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

On the bag for the historic day? His caddie Hamrick – a former assistant coach at the University of Alabama.

Born in 1990, the caddie also hails from Alabama and seemed set to make his mark as a professional golfer.

After attending the University of Alabama, he captained the Crimson Tide team in 2012 – which included freshman Justin Thomas.

The team went on to finish runner-up at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships.

Like Dunlap, Hamrick enjoyed a successful amateur career, and it wasn’t long before he turned professional. In 2012 he made the leap and appeared several time on Tour.

Across a nine-year playing career, though, Nick Dunlap’s caddie spent most of his time on feeder circuits.

When he left playing, he returned to the place where he earned a degree in business management and became assistant golf coach for the University of Alabama in 2021.

Sophomore Dunlap was a star of his teams, bringing national recognition back to his former team. Now, he’s back in the big leagues – and on hand for Dunlap once again.

He gave up his coaching role in July 2023 and has since had a lightning-fast start to stardom with Dunlap.

Following his win at La Quinta, Dunlap turned professional and teed it up a handful of times on the PGA Tour.

That’s when he next won the Barracuda Championship in July 2024, making history by completing a unique double. He is the first player to win on Tour as an amateur and a pro in the same year.

“He’s awesome,” Dunlap said of his caddie after the win. “He’s cool as a cucumber all the time.

“The moment never waivers him at all. He’s always the exact same, he talks to me the same, our process is the exact same.

“He said something yesterday where — we didn’t exactly know where the wind was on a specific hole.

“I didn’t know if it was off the left or off the right, and he goes, ‘Hey, man, the ball’s going to go wherever you hit it, so just hit it straight’. I’m like, ‘thanks, man’. I appreciate it.”

Dunlap said that his caddie lives on a farm, so he would most likely benefit from the e-bike Dunlap took home as part of the winning prize.
