Who is Nick Dunlap’s coach?

Nick Dunlap has had a rapid ascent to fame since turning pro, so who is his coach?

From rising star at the University of Alabama to PGA Tour winner, Dunlap has worked with a few coaches.

But taking his game from college to the top is his current coach, Brian Speakman.

Not for the first time, the American was the talk of the town in July, when winning his second PGA Tour title at the Barracuda Championship.

With it, Dunlap became the first player to win on the circuit as an amateur and a professional in the same calendar year.

His first victory arrived at the American Express in January 2024, becoming the first amateur to win on tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

Carrying that form into the big leagues with Dunlap is Speakman. From Milton, Florida, he works under Mark Blackburn and has been a PGA member since 2002.

He studied Business at Auburn University before becoming a Golf Instructor at Greystone Golf and Country Club in 2010. Speakman has worked there since.

Formerly, he was the Head Professional and General Manager at Perdido Bay Golf Club in Florida and then a fulltime teacher at the highly regarded Eagle Point in Alabama.

Of course, Speakman was a promising golfer in his own playing days but has excelled since turning to coaching and was named Section Teacher of the Year for Alabama – NW Florida in 2017.

It’s unclear when he started working with Dunlap, but they have built a relationship over several years.

In June 2022, Speakman posted on Instagram: “Enjoyed our first day walking back 9 at The Country Club for the US Open with Nick Dunlap.”

That was Dunlap’s major and US Open debut.

At college, Dunlap worked with coach Jay Seawell – the men’s golf coach at Alabama.

“I knew he was good enough. I knew he could handle it,” Dunlap’s former coach said after he won the AMEX.

“It looked bleak with four to five holes to play, but that was Dunlap time. He does that at home. He’s done it his whole life and he did it out here on the PGA Tour today, too.”

If that wasn’t high enough praise, Seawell said his former pupil was “iconic” following the breakthrough season that prompted him to turn pro.

Meanwhile, Dunlap has a mental coach in the form of Dr. Bhrett McCabe. He first knew Dunlap as a kid, when he was a member at Greystone.
