The American is a multiple major championship winner, so who is Justin Thomas’ coach?
While many professionals look to seek advice from those outside their circle, Justin Thomas doesn’t look too far from home for his advice.
Despite rumours of the pair splitting before the 2023 Ryder Cup, Thomas has remained with his coach, and that man is his father, Mike Thomas.
The work they have done together has established Thomas as one of the best and most recognised players on the PGA Tour.
So much so, he’s won over a dozen titles on the PGA Tour, as well as a few on the DP World Tour. And who can forget his handful of team appearances in US Ryder Cup colours?
Here’s a bit more about the man behind Justin Thomas’ swing…
Justin Thomas’ coach Mike Thomas
Justin Thomas’ swing coach is his father Mike.
Mike Thomas is also a PGA professional and has coached his son Justin since the now world-class golfer was a junior.
Teaching Justin the game was a case of trial and error and his father allowed him to figure much of it out himself.
“My goal with him was every time you come out here, we’re going to have fun,” Mike Thomas said. “It wasn’t instruction. It was fun. Then, I was able to sneak some instruction in just because he’d ask me.”
It comes as no surprise, as the Thomas family is full of golf talent. Mike Thomas himself is the son of a PGA professional, Paul Thomas, who was also a teaching pro.
While reports suggested the duo had ended their working relationship in September 2023, Mike declared that inaccurate.
He said: “That’s just stupid. It’s ridiculous. I just left Justin. We worked all morning.” Mike added that Justin sends him swing videos every night.

• Who is Billy Horschel’s coach?
Predominantly, Mike has coached Justin Thomas in his long game, however he has worked with other coaches on his short game.
Justin Thomas began working with John Graham on his putting in 2020, as well as Matt Killen, both of whom have aimed to help with his flatstick.
But Thomas dumped Graham from his coaching team after adopting the Aim Point approach to putting.
It was reported by Todd Lewis that Thomas wanted to figure out his putting by himself after a continued struggle on the greens in 2023.
Fast forward to the 2024 Tour Championship and Thomas explained of his previous downfalls when it comes to coaches.
“The biggest thing for me, I think, where I kind of got in trouble and I get in trouble sometimes, is I just lost all ownership,” Thomas said.
“It’s no fault to coaches, but I always had too many people around, and I felt like I was too reliant on everybody, whether it be my dad or a putting coach or whatever it may be.”
