He is the most famous golfer of all time – but who is Tiger Woods’ daughter?
Sam Alexis Woods is the oldest child of Tiger Woods and was born in 2007. Her mother is Tiger’s ex-wife Elin Nordegren.
Sam Woods’ name is a nod to her famous father, who was referred to as Sam by his father Earl as a child.
Sam Woods has been on the bag for Tiger during recent editions of the PNC Championship, the family tournament the golf icon plays in alongside his son Charlie in Orlando.
Tiger revealed in an interview with the TODAY Show in May 2024 that Sam does not share her sibling Charlie’s ambitions to play golf.
“She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time, when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her,” Woods said. “I had to pack and I had to leave and I had to be gone for weeks and there’s still a negative connotation to it.”
Woods said that he has found a way to connect with daughter Sam away from the golf course.
“So we develop our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf, that we do things that is done that don’t involve golf,” Tiger added. “Meanwhile my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It’s just very different.”
In 2022, Woods’ daughter Sam was widely praised after she gave an emotional speech when Tiger was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. She began the speech by joking about her father’s loss to Angel Cabrera at the 2007 US Open.
“My dad found himself in a position to make an 18-foot putt to force a US Open playoff, which he missed by a foot,” she said.
“He then had to rush to the airport, fly from Pittsburgh to Orlando, and drive to the Winnie Palmer Hospital. Within five minutes of walking into the hospital room, still wearing his red golf shirt, on June 18, I was born. He may have lost that day, but he won the greatest gift of all.”
