World No.1 to play at Muirfield Village – despite not being fully fit
World No.1 Tiger Woods will make his first appearance since the onset of a neck injury when he defends his title at the Memorial tournament next week.
The world No.1, who was forced to pull out of The Players Championship at Sawgrass earlier this month with the neck injury, will return to action – though admitted he is still not back to full fitness.
“Although I’m not 100 per cent, I feel much better and look forward to competing next week,” said the 34-year-old, who has already spent five months away from the game since news of his extra-marital affairs broke in November last year.
“The doctors advised me to take a week off and rest, which I did. They prescribed physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication and soft-tissue massages, which I’m continuing with.”
Last year, Woods carded a final round 65 to win the Muirfield Village event, hosted by Jack Nicklaus, by a single shot.
Woods has won the Memorial four times, an event which he uses to warm-up for the US Open in June.
The 14-time major champion has appeared on tour just three times since his sex scandal, with his best finish fourth place at the Masters, before missing the cut by seven at Quail Hollow and withdrawing at the Players.
