World No.1 has denied there is any tension between himself and Steve Williams
Tiger Woods has denied there is any tension between himself and caddie Steve Williams – despite openly criticising the Kiwi after last month’s US Open at Pebble Beach.
Following his fourth placed finish in the second major of the year, Woods made reference to a number of mistakes Williams had made with club selection during his final round 75.
However, the 34-year-old scandal-hit star said the comments, which were completely out of character, were ‘not a big deal’.
“There’s no tension,” he said. “You guys are reading way to much into that. Do Stevie and I make mistakes? Of course we do. We’re great competitors and we both want to win.”
Woods, speaking at a PGA Tour press conference, then went on to talk about his fitness, recent form and getting back to his best.
“The neck is better than it was,” he said speaking of the injury that saw him withdraw from The Players Championship at Sawgrass earlier this year. “Is it where I want it? No. But it is what it is.
“I’ve just got to get more consistent and string together more rounds like Saturday at the Open.
“I put together 12 really good holes for the first time this season.”
