Tiger dismisses notion that he has rushed his return to competitive golf

Out of the Woods: Tiger asserted that his troublesome knee has fully healed, and that he’s fitter than ever

On the eve of his comeback to competitive golf at the WGC Bridgestone, Tiger Woods asserted that he has fully recovered from the Achilles injury that has sidelined the 14-time major winner for the past three months.

Out of the game since he aggravated a medial Achilles injury by returning ahead of schedule at the Players Championship, there were obvious question marks over the timing of his comeback this time around.

There have been rumblings of financial pressures hastening Woods’ return to the lucrative competitive arena, with a slew of sponsors turning their back on the biggest name in golf since revelations of his extra-marital affairs surfaced.

On the competitive front, the final major of the year – the USPGA – looms large on the horizon, while Woods also finds himself on the wrong side of the thresholds for both the FedEx Cup and the Presidents’ Cup.

However, a chirpy Tiger was quick to dispel any suggestions that he was rushing his return. When asked how long it had been since he had felt this good physically, Woods replied emphatically: “Years.”

“It feels solid, it feels stable, no pain,” Tiger said with certainty. “As I said, that’s one of the reasons why I took as long as I did to come back is that I want to get to this point where I can go ahead and start playing golf again like this.”

“It’s been a very long time, and it feels good to go out there today and hit balls like this, go practice and feel nothing and walk around and pretty much do anything I want on the golf course.”

“I’m excited, excited to compete, to play, and hopefully win the golf tournament”
