World No.1 relying on video technology in preparation for US Open
Tiger Woods is relying on video technology to help him with his swing after revealing he has no plans to hire a new coach.
The world No.1, whose coach Hank Haney resigned from his post last month as a result of the scandal surrounding his client’s private life, says he is happy to rely on video footage when working on his swing.
“I’ve been using video and working on my game that way,” said the 14-time major winner at a press conference at this week’s Memorial tournament. “That’s the great thing about technology. I have no plans for a new coach.”
The 34-year-old did, however, concede that he understood the reason behind Haney, with whom he worked for six years, had decided to put an end to their partnership.
“I understand it,” he said. “There is a lot going on. Life is moving forward.
“The last six months have been pretty tough but I’m starting to get into my routine of playing, which is something that I haven’t done.”
Having played just three events this year, including a missed cut at Quail Hollow and a withdrawal at the Players Championship with a neck injury, Woods will be hoping more than ever that he can defend his Memorial title at Muirfield Village.
And, thankfully for Woods, his neck seems to be on the mend.
“The neck feels pretty good,” eh said. “It’s still not where I want it to be but the inflammation has calmed down. It’s a little sore after a good practice but I can recover for the next day, which I wasn’t able to do prior to this, which is good.”
With four victories at Muirfield Village, including three-in-a-row from 1999, Woods firmly believes it is the ideal place for him to prepare for the US Open at Pebble Beach from June 17-20.
“I’ve always like this course,” he added. “I played here in the US Amateur and loved it then and loved it as a pro.
“I have good memories here and it’s always nice to come back to a venue where I’ve played well. Maybe this time I can get four rounds in and get ready for the US Open.”
