The World No.1 plays down chances of fan insults at first regular PGA Tour event
World No.1 Tiger Woods insists he can handle any abuse thrown at him by the crowd this week as he prepares to play in his first regular PGA Tour event of the season.
Woods, who took a 144 day break from competitive golf after news of his extra-marital affairs hit the headlines, made his comeback at the Masters Tournament earlier this month, but will face the paying public for the first time at the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina.
“It’s happened before, before any of this. I have dealt with that before,” Woods said of fan abuse.
“But as far as the fans here over the years goes, they have been great and there is no reason why that shouldn’t continue.”
The 14-time major winner also spoke of how he found the fun in the game again, after his self-imposed break.
“It’s been more fun, no doubt,” he said. “I have had a lot of struggles internally for a while now and that’s one of the reasons why it wasn’t that much fun.
“The game is now where it used to be and where it should be. It should be fun. It is a game.”
