Suffice to say Wyndham Clark and Byeong Hun An won’t be sending each other a Christmas card this year.

The Presidents Cup pair became embroiled in a bitter war of words ahead of Sunday’s decisive singles session at Royal Montreal.

An, 33, took exception to Clark’s celebration after Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele closed out Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim in Saturday afternoon’s foursomes.

Cantlay’s 20-foot birdie putt sealed a one-up win for the US as dusk fell on the penultimate day of this year’s match.

That gave the United States – chasing a tenth consecutive victory in the biennial contest – a commanding 11-7 lead.

Amid wild celebrations, former US Open champion Clark was captured by television cameras shouting “Nighty-night, boys” in the direction of the Kims.

That prompted an angry response from An, who sat out the whole of Saturday’s action, on social media.

“You always have a guy in your group who doesn’t do shit but talk shit all day,” wrote An.

He later deleted the post, posting this apology instead.

“I’m deleting my tweet,” wrote An. “My apologies. I want to be a better person than that.”

By that time, of course, it was too late. Several accounts had screenshotted the offending post, including the US-based Golf.com, which posted it to its Instagram account.

That caught the eye of Clark and, shortly before he went to the tee for his singles dust-up with Min Woo Lee, he replied to the Golf.com post with this.

“Then there’s the guy who didn’t even have a tee time…”

Something tells us we haven’t heard the last of this one.
