Gleneagles Hotel

Auchterarder, PH3 1NF

Since opening its doors in June 1924, Gleneagles has been one of Scotland’s most iconic hotels and sporting estates. Set beneath the Ochil Hills, in the heart of Perthshire, it has been a must-go destination for golfers for nearly a century. The PGA Centenary Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and host to the Ryder Cup in 2014, was also the focus for one of last year’s greatest sporting moments when Norway’s Suzann Pettersen clinched the Solheim Cup for Team Europe on the final green of the final day’s play. The King’s and Queen’s courses remain heathland classics in every respect and, though not as long as today’s modern championship tests, they still throw up a serious test. The practice facilities at Gleneagles are also exceptional, with the Wee Course giving beginners or kids the perfect opportunity to play in a relaxed environment.

Feast in The Strathearn, the theatrical Franco-Scottish dining experience, the Birnam Brasserie, a relaxed Mediterranean style restaurant serving the best Italian and French cuisine, or toast the day’s play in the famous Century Bar. The Dormy Restaurant, meanwhile, serves freshly fired pizzas and a range of tandoor inspired dishes created in the dedicated Tandoor oven. Gleneagles also boasts over 50 pursuits outwith golf, including fly-fishing, falconry, cycling, off-roading, equestrian experiences and archery to name just a few. Guests can also try their hand at paddle boarding or canoeing on one of the hotel’s very own lochs or take to the trees with a tree climbing and zip-wire experience.
