It’s a big fortnight for the world’s top female golfers as they assemble in Fife for the Women’s Scottish Open at Dumbarnie. Then it’s on to Carnoustie for the fifth and final major of the women’s golf season, the AIG Women’s Open, where we witnessed a stunning victory for Sophia Popov at Royal Troon last summer.
First up in our how to play Major Golf venues in Scotland is the Carnoustie Championship Course. This course has become widely regarded as one of the world’s finest golf courses and is tagged ‘golf’s greatest test’. It will host The Women’s Open for the second time having held the 2011 edition. It was a special occasion for the dominant force in women’s golf at the time, Yani Tseng, who defended her title in style, seeing off legends of the event, Sophie Gustafson and Catriona Matthew, in the process.
Blessed with spectacular views, Dumbarnie Links is a true premier links course. Founded, developed and designed by renowned course architect, Clive Clark, this course is designed to inspire rather than intimidate golfers.
As players walk off the 18th green and up to the well-appointed clubhouse to toast their game with a wee dram of fine malt whisky, no doubt they will already be talking of planning their next round at Dumbarnie.
Home course of bunkered Golf Breaks champion Colin Montgomerie. Designed in the traditional out-and-back manner of the Old Course at St Andrews. Troon’s test begins with a gentle opening through some of the most striking linksland to be found anywhere in the world and concludes with a back nine as tough as any finish in the world.
