US PGA Championship: The Caddies ‘Tee Time Tips’ for golf’s second major of the year.

19th May, 2022 by The Caddie

Southern Hills Golf Club, Oklahoma, is the venue for this week’s  US PGA Championship. The worlds best descend to Tulsa to showcase their golfing abilities on a Perry Maxwell designed championship course.

This week The Caddie is taking a look into the field for the US PGA Championship and picking our top five players for this year’s championship and who you should keep an eye on…

Scottie Scheffler

The world number one is in fine form this season. Winning four times already this year including The Masters, Scottie will be aiming to place the Wanamaker trophy next to his recently bagged green jacket. Coming off a T15 finish at the AT&T Bryon Nelson championship, Scottie is continuing the excellent display of golf he’s produced since the start of the season. He begins his quest alongside world number 2 and 3 Jon Rahm and Colin Morikawa so it’s sure to be an entertaining three ball.

Jon Rahm

A recent winner of the Mexico Open, Jon is peaking at the right time. In search of his first US PGA championship, the US Open champion has already bagged three top-13 finishes in four appearances, his best being a T4 finish back in 2018. As one of the favourites in every tournament he plays, can he conquer Southern Hills Golf Club? Let’s find out shall we.

Jordan Spieth

A first and a second place in his last two starts sees Jordan showing the form that’s been missing for a while. His bid to secure the Grand Slam comes into play this week as the Wanamaker Trophy stares right at him. Paired with Rory Mcilroy and Tiger Woods, the attention will certainly be on him, but will he triumph and become only the 6th golfer to secure a Grand Slam? Time will tell…

Cameron Smith

Having taken a month break from tournaments, Cameron comes into the US PGA Championships well-rested and as fresh as he could ever be. Springing on from a T3rd finish at The Masters, Smith is ready to do it all over again and he continues his quest for that first major championship win. He’s not been a key feature in the media which could be a good thing as he won’t feel any pressure, but does he ever? Maybe this weekend could be his weekend.

Rory Mcilroy

Seeking his third US PGA championship, Mcilroy is no stranger to holding The Wanamaker Trophy. The four-time major winner is coming across relaxed, confident, and ready to take on the challenge that Southern hill possesses. Placed in the ‘marquee’ group, it’s going to be a great opening couple of days where we can hopefully see Mcilroy return to winning ways.

With the first round under our belts, we wonder if any of our key picks will triumph and lift The Wannamaker Trophy…stay tuned to find out.
