Andy Rowe isn’t the first person that attended Kings of Distance 2018 to have raved about the contribution tour pro Alvaro Quiros made towards a memorable day.
In the Short Game zone, the Spaniard – a seven-time winner on the European Tour – took each team member aside for a short individual lesson on how to improve from in and around the greens, with glowing reviews.
The Red Team, along with the Purple and Greens, were three of the groups lucky enough to have Quiros share his pearls of wisdom with them and Rowe, a 24-handicapper, was delighted at being able to profit from the brief lesson.
“It was a really special experience,” he said. “Alvaro gave me some invaluable tips on how to hit short and longer shots from the sand.
"To get that one-on-one time and to get it on probably one of the weakest parts of my game – because I don’t tend to practice it all that much – was just ace.”
Rowe, at 29, has not long started playing golf again after being lost to the sport during his early adulthood through attending university and beginning his career. He joined Stockport Golf Club along with a few mates recently and describes it as ‘the best course in the region’.
Since then, he says he has quickly become ‘obsessed’ and, after recently being custom-fitted for some Callaway Rogue irons, he believes that it won’t be long before he adds the Rogue driver to his bag after gaining eight yards on the day.
“I can’t get enough of golf now,” he added. “Before I bought my Rogue irons, I was playing with inherited clubs and I thought, if I’m going to takes this seriously then I better take the plunge. I attended a Callaway fitting day with Gary [Norcott, the Stockport Golf Club pro] and I loved the Rogue irons right away.
“As for the driver, I think it’s a matter of when, not if I end up buying one as that was fantastic, too. Overall, it was just a brilliant day from start to finish.”
