The Callaway Epic driver recently got one of its biggest endorsements yet – from former US president Barack Obama!
Yes, just three weeks on from Callaway’s Kings of Distance event at St Andrews Links – which was hailed as ‘the best yet’ – Obama rocked up on the driving range ahead of his tee time on the Old Course with an Epic in the bag.
Obama, who is said to be a 13-handicapper, was in Scotland ahead of speaking at a charity dinner in Edinburgh for philanthropist Sir Tom Hunter and his round at the Old Course was understood to be his first in the home of golf. Not a bad place to start, huh?
According to posts on Instagram, Obama shot somewhere in the low 80s and, as you can see in the video below, the crowds swarmed to see him in what was reportedly the biggest non-tournament crowd since Bobby Jones turned up unannounced in the 1930s.
Obama’s appearance at the Old Course on Friday kicked off what turned out to be an incredible weekend for Callaway, as Alex Noren achieved his fifth victory in 17 starts at the BMW PGA Championship, while Kevin Kisner snatched his second PGA Tour win at the Dean & Deluca Invitational.
