Mark Johnson has told of his delight after gaining 15 yards with the new Rogue driver at Callaway Kings of Distance 2018 at Stockport Golf Club.
Unlike many of the 96 attendees on the day, Johnson – who has Callaway gear throughout his bag – had previously tested out the Rogue driver but was determined to stick with his trusty Epic.
That all changed after a short, five-minute fitting with a Callaway staff member in the Driver Zone on the day, resulting in a significant gain of 15 yards.
“I play Callaway anyway and I’ve got the Epic driver, XR 3-wood and Rogue 5-wood,” he explained. “I’ve tried the Rogue three or four times but, previously, I didn’t see enough from it to take the place of the Epic because I like that a lot.
“But today, the Callaway fitters have helped me find a set-up that’s 15 yards longer than my Epic. They’ve taken me from a stiff to a regular shaft, which is pretty cool actually because my swing speed isn’t that great.
“Overall, what I noticed was a much-improved flight and, obviously, I was hitting it further too, so I’ll definitely be looking to add the Rogue driver to my bag now.”
Johnson, who plays off eight, has only recently joined Stockport Golf Club and, in picking up tips from leading European Tour pros Thomas Pieters, David Horsey and Alvaro Quiros, he believes it’ll encourage him to keep improving his game.
“It’s been fantastic,” he added. “For us as members to have all these
tour pros and media here at our home club, it’s just brilliant.
“I’m a new member at Stockport and, already, I’m loving it. I’ve met some great people in my short time here and hopefully, with the tips that I’ve picked up today, it’ll inspire me to keep getting better and continue enjoying my golf.”
