If you’re looking for textbook golf swings to copy, you’ll find plenty on the LPGA. Celine Boutier’s classic move would be a good place to start looking.

The 2023 Evian Championship winner hits over three quarters of her fairways off the tee and when you see the positions she gets into on her swing, it’s not hard to see why.

To find out what we can learn from the French star, we asked long-time Performance Panel member Steve Johnston to pick out three keys that amateurs can take to their own swings.

1. Width Creation

At the top of the backswing, we can see that Celine’s left arm is above her shoulder blade. She’s really picking that club up and there is a lot of width there.

Lots of golfers can learn from this, as it will help with generating power. You want to create width without pulling yourself off the starting spot in your swing, which should be over the ball. Celine does this very well.

2. Downswing Trigger

Celine has a great move to start her downswing. As she starts to move towards the ball, her hands drop lower, towards the ground.

• I increased my swing speed by ten miles per hour. Here’s how.

• Rory McIlroy: This is how I hit 330 yard drives

That’s caused by her hips moving towards the target, which naturally lowers her hands. She’s not thinking about shallowing the shaft. It happens thanks to her lower body.

3. Add the finishing touch

Celine makes a brilliant move through the ball. You can see there’s a straight line from her right elbow, through the shaft, down to the sweetspot of the club, followed by a nice and balanced follow-through.

• This crafty training aid helped me boost my swing speed

• One of golf’s longest hitters has a way to increase yardage

At her finish position, Celine’s right shoulder is closer to the target than her left shoulder, which shows she really has allowed her body to turn through towards the intended target.
