Producing more power through your legs in the golf swing is a great way to hit longer drives.

Whether it’s something you work on or not, the data proves that hitting the ball longer off the tee will give you the chance to shoot lower scores. If you can apply more power, you’ll hit it longer.

Watch the best golfers in the world and you’ll see swings where the legs are very much getting involved, rather than being static. There’s good reason for that. The legs are your biggest and most powerful muscles, so being able to boost the power from them is a great way to hit longer drives.

The good news is you can boost the power in your lower body with this simple but effective exercise. The best players in the world are very good at pushing through the ground during their swing. That force is generated up through the body and eventually out through the end of the club.

This exercise is called a broad jump and if you can incorporate it into your golf workouts, you’ll see a boost in your power on the golf course.

How to do a broad jump to hit longer drives

Here’s how to get the most out of this exercise. Get your feet shoulder-width apart at the start of the jump. Then use your arms to gain momentum through the movement. Bend at your knees and your hips before you jump as far as you possibly can. When you land, get the heel down first, then your toes, so it’s nice and soft.

Focus on jumping as far forward as you can in this exercise. It’s all about creating explosive force, which is where power in the swing comes from.

This is a plyometric exercise, so it’s going to work well alongside a strength-based workout. But it’s also great if you’re doing workouts from home and you don’t have too much access to equipment.

You don’t need any equipment for this, which is a bonus, but it really will help your golf swing.
