Austria, and its capital city of Vienna in particular, is becoming an increasingly popular stop during a European trip.
Of course, the country gets even better when you pack your clubs and hit the course.
Within an hour of Vienna, you’ll find some world-class layouts that stake their claim as some of the best in Europe.
Here are the best golf courses in Austria…

Golfclub Adamstal
Green fee: From €85
This is surely among the most natural and mountainous golf experiences in the world. It’s tough to put into words how incredible the views are, but we’d recommend enjoying them from a cart to navigate the hilly landscape. The authentic Austrian lodge on site is well worth your time, too.

Diamond Country Club
Green fee: From €40
It’s no surprise that the DP World Tour chose Diamond Country Club to host the Austrian Open for several years, which makes this green fee stand out even more. It’s renowned for excelling in design, service, and facilities, while the garden villas here combine to make the ideal destination.

Fontana Golf Club
Green fee: From €120
One club longer on the green fee scale, but Fontana – only 50 minutes from Vienna – is mightily impressive. The championship course finished with one of the best par-5s around, doglegging around a lake with a beach forming the right rough. Take this place in from the clubhouse, you won’t regret it.

Golfclub Murhof
Green fee: From €94
Head to Graz in the south, Austria’s second largest city, for Murhof. Set in English parkland surroundings, it was founded in 1963 but remains one of the best in the country. A top-quality layout with a demanding stretch between holes five and 11, where only one hole is less than 450 yards.

Golfclub Mondsee
Green fee: From €96
Formerly part of Bavaria, Mondsee is in the district of Vöcklabruck and enjoys a peaceful, yet medieval setting. Farmland was converted into a golf course in 1986 and now features two nine-hole circuits. Water comes into play on all four closing holes, including the par-3 17th, which requires a carry off the tee.
