The Balearic Island of Majorca is a dream for golfers.

With only 23 golf courses, you’d think otherwise. But from virtually any point on the island, they are all no more than an hour’s drive.

Better still, they are scattered around Majorca, from the southeast of Palma to the outskirts of the regional capital itself.

A couple of the best courses here are almost new, too, making this a world-class modern golf trip.

Here are six of our favourites…

6 of the best golf courses in Majorca

Club de Golf Alcanada

Green fee: €170

On the northern tip of Majorca is Alcanada, the only golf course situated right on the coast of the island. With stunning sea views, it’s the jewel amongst Majorca’s golf courses and is one of the finest Mediterranean golf experiences available. The Alcudia lighthouse in the distance is a unique feature, too.

Son Gual

Green fee: €125

A private, family-run members’ club, Son Gual is widely regarded as the number one golf destination in Majorca. The project is reputed to have cost around €30m and it’s evident in how immaculate the championship course is, as well as the facilities on-site. Wildflowers, lakes and expansive bunkering add to the appeal.

Pula Golf

Green fee: €116

The revamped layout at Pula Golf is one of Majorca’s must-play golf courses. Founded in 1995, José María Olazábal completely redesigned it between 2004 and 2006 to transform it into a stage set for world-class golf. It hosted the annual Majorca Classic – which he won in 2005. It both plays and looks great, getting better the further you go.

T Golf Palma

Green fee: €75

Originally known as Puntiró Golf Club, this course is located just nine kilometres from the bustling Palma city centre, but you’d barely know it. Found in a perfectly peaceful spot, the 18-hole layout opened in 2006 and is the first in Majorca from the Nicklaus Design team. Risk and reward with watery graves tree-flanked fairways to deal with.

Capdepera Golf

Green fee: €99

An American feel to this Majorcan course, as Capdepera was designed by Dan Maples and opened in 1989. An unusual layout and mix of holes, but that suits those after a unique round of 6, 9, 12 or 18 holes on a sunny day here. Teaching pros spend time here in the off-season as a result, with mountain views posing as the backdrop.

Son Servera

Green fee: €130

Founded in Costa de los Pinos in 1967, Son Servera became Majorca’s first sports club. Since then, the golf course has evolved into one of the best on the island, surrounded by oak, pine, olive and carob trees. With wide fairways, it’s perfect for holiday golfers and as a par 72 demands a strong enough test with water hazards throughout.
