5 of the best golf courses in Mauritius

Mauritius is on its way to becoming one of the world’s best golf destinations.

Despite the small number of courses available, the top tracks are all designed by golf legends.

There aren’t many better places to bask in the sun and get the clubs out, so here are some of our favourites.

La Réserve Golf Links

Green fee: €85

If links golf in the sun sounds right up your street, then this is where you want to be. Lining the southern shores of Mauritius, Heritage Golf Club provides the perfect setting for a pure links challenge. La Réserve Golf Links is the Indian Ocean’s first and only contemporary course of its style, designed by Louis Oosthuizen. The DP World Tour has started coming here, too, it’s that good.

Ile aux Cerfs

Green fee: €150

Set on its own island, Ile aux Cerfs is regarded as one of the most spectacular courses in the world. Formerly known as Le Touessrok, it’s a Bernhard Langer signature design that reportedly cost around $11.5m to build. All 18 holes offer ocean views, while the pristine white sandy bunkers provide a contrast to the lush green grass.

Belle Mare Plage

Green fee: N/A

Exclusive to guests of the Belle Mare Plage hotel, the Legends course is one of two stunning 18-hole courses here. Built on bush-covered volcanic rock and low-lying food plains, its signature hole is the par-3 17th, which plays across a lagoon. The demanding nature means it’s been a perfect venue for plenty of professional and amateur events.

Tamarina

Green fee: €150

One of the newer designs on the island of Mauritius, Tamarin is the work of course architect Rodney Wright. The layout offers incredible sweeping views over the stunning Rempart Mountain and Tamarin Bay and is another example of why golf here is truly special. A tropical golf club on the west coast that you must include in your travel plans.

Anahita

Green fee: €100

Guests at Anahita Golf and Spa resort get complimentary golf here and at Ile aux Cerfs, making it a no-brainer. Ernie Els designed this one and opened it in 2008 on the east coast. The fairways are built on old sugar plantations, while a handful of them run along the rugged coastline. Set between land and sea, your jaw will be on the floor admiring the location.
