It’s been over a decade since Wales was thrust into the golf spotlight.
Newport hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010 and, since then, some of the world’s leading tours have showcased the exceptional golf courses on offer.
Whether it’s the Senior Open or the Cazoo Open – on the DP World Tour – several world-class players have teed it up here.
So, here are some of our favourite golf courses in Wales.

Royal St Davids
Green fee: £120
One of only two Royal golf clubs in Wales, Royal St Davids – in Harlech – is found in the most stunning setting. The course is guarded by the medieval Harlech castle, while sand dunes tower over the links. It’s a fair challenge despite its unique character and offers value for money all year round.

Aberdovey
Green fee: £100
You can bring that green fee down depending on when you play and at what time, but it’s a treat whenever you peg it up. Set within the Snowdonia National Park, the course runs right along the shore and, expectedly, boasts surreal views. Ian Woosnam used to practice here every spring, in preparation for the Masters, too.
—
Bull Bay
Green fee: £50
We couldn’t forget Bull Bay, the most northernly golf course in Wales. It’s brilliantly named but is also one of the very best courses in the country and costs a budget green fee. Laid out right above the shore, it weaves through valleys, while golfers might be able to spot the hills of the Lake District on a clear day.
—
Pennard
Green fee: £110
By now, you’ll know to expect nothing short of magnificent scenery. And Pennard is no different. Located just a few miles from Swansea, it sits on top of a cliff and overlooks the beaches of Three Cliff and Oxwich Bays. It’s one of the oldest golf courses in Wales, too, and is as unique as golf courses come.
—
Tenby
Green fee: £60
Originally a nine-holer, Tenby lays claim to be the oldest golf course in Wales. It’s a charming links on the Pembrokeshire coast and is content in being a hidden gem among British golf. But for those who know about it, the course is one of the finest examples of true links, all for an affordable price.
—
Nefyn
Green fee: £65
One look at the Old Course at Nefyn and golfers around the world will be sold. Founded in 1907, it is quite literally golf on the edge of the cliffs. An extremely unusual layout but a highly enjoyable one, with 27 holes available to play.
