Few sporting locations can match that of the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
The venue looks onto one of the most revered sites in world golf, a place where legends of the game have triumphed and some of its most iconic moments have played out.
From Jean Van de Velde’s notorious 1999 Open meltdown to Tom Watson’s first major victory in 1975 and Padraig Harrington’s play-off win over Sergio Garcia in 2007, Carnoustie has been the theatre for some of golf’s greatest drama.
That’s made the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, which sits overlooking the 18th green, a mecca for lovers of the game.
Now, after a £3 million revamp, the hotel is better than ever and offering outstanding stay-and-play packages to further entice its guests.
Multi-million pound transformation

The extensive refurbishment has elevated every aspect of the hotel, ensuring that guests enjoy a world-class experience from the moment they arrive.
General manager Colin Richmond described the changes as “a complete transformation of the ground floor” that includes a brand-new restaurant, bar, and sports bar.
One of the biggest highlights of the renovation is the hotel’s leisure facilities.
“The pool has undergone a full transformation, including brand-new tiling, painting, and state-of-the-art changing facilities,” Colin explained. “Our gym has doubled in size, featuring brand-new equipment, and our spa has expanded from three treatment rooms to eight, offering a much more comprehensive wellness experience.”
Meanwhile, the bedrooms have been enhanced with upgraded facilities.
Colin added: “We’ve introduced luxurious new duvets and pillows, high-quality coffee machines and upgraded the toiletries. There’s also enhanced Wi-Fi access in all rooms. These improvements ensure that guests enjoy both comfort and convenience during their stay.”
Pay for golf, stay for free

One of the most attractive deals allows guests to enjoy complimentary accommodation when booking rounds at Carnoustie’s three outstanding layouts.
- Two rounds, one night
If guests book two rounds of golf they receive one night’s stay with breakfast free.
- Three Rounds, Two Nights
For those looking to fully immerse themselves in the Carnoustie golf experience, a three-round package is available including a two-night stay with breakfast and use of all hotel facilities.
A perfect test of golf

Those packages cover all three courses – The Championship, Burnside and Buddon.
Colin highlighted that they offer a diverse experience beyond just championship-level links golf.
He said: “The Burnside mirrors the Championship Course in style and is a tidy and challenging venue that is very much one of the ‘hidden gems’ that Scottish golf is blessed with.
“The Buddon starts and finishes as a links course with several holes in the middle of the round that are tree-lined and boast attractive lakes rich with local wildlife. It’s a fantastic combination for any golfer looking for variety.”
Of course, after a day on the links, guests can unwind in the hotel’s luxurious surroundings.
Dining options include the high-end Calder’s Bistro with delicacies such as Panko Crusted Lemon Sole Goujons and Local Lamb Rump. The new sports bar has treats including Fresh Landed Battered Haddock and is the perfect spot to discuss the day’s round over a drink. Hopefully that won’t include too many missed putts.
A destination beyond golf

While Carnoustie’s golf is the main draw, the hotel offers a complete resort experience, making it ideal for golfers and non-golfers alike.
“We’re more than just a hotel—we’re a destination,” Colin said. “Guests can come here for a few days and have everything they need on-site, from fantastic golf to top-class leisure and dining facilities.”
With the extensive renovations and unbeatable Stay and Play packages, there has never been a better time to visit Carnoustie Golf Hotel. Find out more on the hotel’s website.
