COSTA DAURADA

Golf trips for single people aren’t exactly common in today’s market – but there’s light at the end of the tunnel for lonely, club-wielding golfers.

This May, you might meet your future husband or wife at the European Singles Trophy on Spain’s Costa Daurada. The fun, laid-back golf tournament is aimed at ‘single golfers who want to meet like-minded people while enjoying a mix of golf, culture, food and relaxation’.

The Costa Daurada region is just one hour south of Barcelona, and is enjoying growing status as a golf paradise. To allow players a taste of the variety on offer, the golf will take place on four different courses.

These venues include Costa Dorada, the oldest course in the region, and Golf & Country Club Bonmont, a Robert Trent Jones Jr design set between the sea and the hills, with terrific views of both. Also on the agenda are the Hills and Lakes courses at Lumine Golf Club, which forms part of a spectacular beach and leisure resort in Salou.

The European Singles Trophy trip, from May 11-17, includes four days of golf with a free day in between the two practice rounds and the two tournament rounds.

The Costa Daurada is the ideal destination for tourism. It has five certified touristic resorts in Salou, Cambrils, Calafell, Vila-seca- la Pineda Platja and Prades Mountains and has 81 km of beaches, plus one of the best theme parks in Spain, PortAventura.

Tarragona, Reus and the Cistercian Route are also hubs of culture and art and there is a mountain of things to see and do, making it the perfect place to tour after you’ve enjoyed your golf.

Golfers visiting the region can now move around without having to rent a car or take expensive taxis.

The Costa Daurada Golf Association is offering visiting golfers the chance to make use of discounted airport transfers and golf transfers through its ‘Golf Shuttle’.

Tomas Björklund, the association’s general manager, explained: “We are delighted to finally have the Golf Shuttle service up and running. We fully understand the need for a service like this since holiday golfers don’t want to be bothered with rental cars and such when they come down to enjoy our golf courses.”

The Golf Shuttle is ideal for groups of between four and 16 people and is offered between the seven golf courses and nine hotels in the region. It also services both the Barcelona and Reus airports.
