Salgados Golf Club announces major renovation plans

Salgados Golf Club, in the Algarve region of Portugal, has announced a €3.2 million renovation project to upgrade its 18-hole course.

The initiative, which began on November 1 and will be completed in February 2025, also includes upgrades to the facility and a new fleet of golf buggies.

The course renovation will be overseen by Simon Doyle, Troon’s Vice President of Agronomy, as well as the Troon Design and Development team.

Together, they will unveil a new island green signature hole as part of an expansion of on-course lakes to increase habitat for birds and flora.

The par-3 12th currently incorporates an existing lake, but it will be transformed into a full island green surrounded by water on all sides.

Bordered with native rock, it will take inspiration from the world’s best island greens and measure from 105 to 147 yards.

Meanwhile, the project will see the installation of a new state-of-the-art irrigation system by Rain Bird. All tee boxes will also be laser leveled, and bunkers will be reshaped and receive new sand.

Salgados GC was originally designed by Pedro Vasconcelos in 1994 and renovated by renowned landscape architect Álvaro Mano in 2012.

It has multiple surrounding hotel partners, including the Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Center, Marriott Residences Salgados Resort and Westin Salgados Beach Resort.
