Considered the fifth oldest golf club in the world, there is plenty of history at Montrose Golf Links.

The records say golf has been played in this corner of Angus since 1562 - hence the name of the course, which is also known as the Medal - but it wasn't until 1863 that Old Tom Morris fashioned the full layout as we know it today, making it the second oldest 18-hole golf course in the world.

On the same stretch of spectacular linksland as Open host Carnoustie, Montrose is often used as a Local Final Qualifying venue for golf's oldest major.

Montrose is about as traditional as a Scottish links can get, and can count Ben Crenshaw among its biggest fans. "A magnificent stretch of marvellously natural ground which depicts how the game was born," the two-time Masters champion said.
