Situated right on the Solway coast that makes up the border with England, the splendid - and aptly-named - Southerness is one of the UK's finest heathlands.
But don't let the 6,500-yard length lull you into a false sense of security, this is a tough track that will test every element of your game.
There are two relatively short par-5 holes, but with eight par-4s topping the 400-yard mark, you'll have to be in your best form to come away with anything resembling a respectable scorecard.
Still, if you feel like you're getting beaten up, you can lose yourself in the stunning scenery, from Criffel Peak to the Lake District.
Is Southerness worth going an hour out of your way to play? Absolutely it is.
