The home club of former Ryder Cup star and Sky Sports commentator Andrew Coltart, Thornhill is a classic Scottish golf club.
Established in 1893, its course is a terrific blend of heathland and parkland and fully justifies its 'hidden gem' reputation.
Unusually, your round starts with a par-3 before it really bares its teeth at the testing fourth.
However, the pick of the bunch is surely the par-5 15th. Named 'Peat Sheaugh', it requires a big drive across a pond to a narrow, dogleg fairway.
With tremendous views for good measure, a round at Thornhill is always a highlight of any visit to Dumfries & Galloway.
