The 'county' is a true links course situated on the shores of the scenic Luce Bay in Southwest Scotland. The 18-hole setup in Newton Stewart, a small town in Dumfries and Galloway, is one of the most popular of its kind in Scotland, especially among holiday-goers.
Wigtownshire's course is in excellent condition, so when you combine that with the subtly sloping greens and the changing sea breezes, you're in for a fine test of golf.
There are three short holes, 14 par fours and one par five, with a large practice area sat adjacent to the first tee. Due to the course's sandy soil base and proximity to the sea, there is rarely a problem with water lying on the course and winter greens are rarely used.
Measuring just over 6,000 yards, the sixth hole, 'Blackthorn' is the most demanding off the tee, but the course is generally quite flat.
