Officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest surviving golf course, Musselburgh Old Course is a delightful nine hole links course weaving in and out of the Musselburgh racecourse with a totally unique and fascinating history.
Originally seven holes, The Old Course had another added in 1832 and a ninth, 'Hole Across' added circa 1870. The first hole, originally the ninth, is a par three and from there, the next three holes play eastward from the grandstand at the racecourse.
It was the first venue to host The Open and did so on six occasions between 1874 and 1889. As a piece of true golfing history, the course is open to the public all year round, and you can even hire a set of hickory clubs to play the course as it was back in the day.
With a lack of rough, lightning quick surfaces, and short yardages, the Old Course is a proper blast from the past and is great value, too.
