Laid out in 1933 by the legendary Harry Colt, Newbattle Golf Club is a mature parkland that is a must-play if you find yourself in the Edinburgh region.
At just 5,912 yards, with a par of 69, length isn't a factor here. Instead, you must weave your way down tree-lined fairways and into well-protected greens.
As for our favourite hole, the 17th is well worth the wait. A drive from an elevated green down into a wide fairway, before an approach up to a raised green. Glorious. And great fun.
Newbattle is also one of the friendliest golf clubs you will visit, so be sure to stop in the clubhouse for a bite to eat and a chat - as well as soaking in the club's fascinating history.
