Just five minutes inland from the highly popular Portobello Beach, the golf course at Portobello is a gentle one that offers a relaxing game.
The par-32 course comprises nine holes of genuine character that are in equal parts beautifully prepared and quite forgiving. Playing to just over 2,500 yards, the main defence is tight greens, which do require accurate approach shots.
There are four par threes and five far fours all of which are very tricky and if the wind is fresh off the sea, then they will all play slightly more difficult.
The club has recently completely reconstructed the first hole in order to make a dogleg to the right and various other improvements have been made in recent years to enhance what is already a great little gem, while the closing ninth hole is the signature. At 198 yards, avoid the bunkers short and you'll be met by a sloping green.
