Barra Golf Club has a very interesting USP, in that it is the most westerly golf course in the United Kingdom.

The 2,400-yard nine-hole course, near the township of Cleat on the Isle of Barra, was built in 1992 by a group of locals. As you can expect, the views out across the Atlantic Ocean are spectacular.

The course is about as quirky as it gets, and is laid out over what can only be described as turbulent land, with exposed rocks peaking through the fairways to ensure no bounce is ever the same.

As well as that sort of thing to deal with, there is also a number of blind shots to hidden landing areas.

You probably won't like Barra the first time round. But play it again - it's only £10 to play all day - and you'll soon fall in love. Full of character and charm, this is a travelling golfer's dream. Just remember to bring your camera!
