Work started on this inland nine-holer, which is actually in the village of Rigside in the hills above Douglas Water, in 1921 and the first ball was struck a year later.
Laid out by a greenkeeper from nearby Lanark Golf Club and constructed by volunteers from the area, Douglas Water remains a joy to play more than a century on.
At £10 for a day pass and just minutes from the M74 motorway that connects Glasgow to the border with England, this is an excellent stop-off point for a trip in or out of Scotland.
