On June 22, 1897, as the country enjoyed a public holiday to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, John Angus's 12-hole creation was opened in St Andrews.

So what else were they going to call it?

The third oldest course in the Trust's seven-strong portfolio, the Jubilee was extended to 18 holes by the turn of the century, before Willie Auchterlonie made a number of improvements soon after the second World War. Then, in 1988, Donald Steel completely overhauled the course, upgrading it to the championship-standard layout we know today.

Nestled in a narrow strip of land between the New course and St Andrews Bay, the Jubilee is a traditional out-and-back links that is full of character and variety.

The Jubilee's strengths are, by far, its par-3 holes, while Steel's changes has seen the course host a number of prestigious amateur events.

An absolute must if you are golfing in this very special part of the world.
