While St Andrews is not synonymous with heathland golf, the Duke's course - up in the hills of Mount Melville looking over the Auld Grey Toon - is well worth consideration for any trip to the Home of Golf.

The original layout was designed by five-time Open champion Peter Thomson before being bought and renovated by American billionaire Herb Kohler in 2007.

Among the changes was to remove the revet-faced pot bunkers and replace them with rough-edged, spacious bunkers we see on classic heathland courses around the UK.

You'll always find the Duke's in top condition, and the facilities are second to none.
