The Fairmont Resort in St Andrews has two fantastic championship golf courses, with the Torrance giving more of an inland test. Still, it is a very enjoyable place for a game of links golf.
The Torrance Course is the product of victorious Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance's first venture into the world of golf design. It also has input from the legendary Gene Sarazen. The Torrance is a traditional Scottish links with an inviting blend of wide, undulating fairways and rolling, sizeable greens.
The loop on the front nine takes you around the stunning Fairmont hotel, with the par-3 eighth taking you almost to the front door of the building.
The long par-3 17th is a brute from the back tees, with a watery grave awaiting any balls that head left of the putting surface.
