With Father’s Day approaching, we’ve collated a couple of famous and unknown stories of how Dad got the kids into golf. The Caddie also knows the trouble with coming up with new gift ideas, so we have come up with some great golf suggestions at the bottom of this short article.
Dad is often the reason why so many people take up the game of golf. Intrigued by those clubs that rattle around in the car, the putter that sits in the corner of the room or the reason he disappears on a Sunday morning – many sons and daughters take up the game themselves.
Perhaps the greatest Father and Son duo of all time. Both played a formative role in the development of the game, including golf’s original major – The Open Championship. Both men won The Open four times each and held the record of being the oldest winner of The Open (Old Tom – aged 46) and the youngest winner (Young Tom – aged 17), respectively.

Ariya Jutanugarn is a two-time major champion, having won the US Women’s Open and The Women’s Open. Her father Somboon owns a professional golf shop at the Rose Garden Golf Course near Bangkok. Jutanugarn’s older sister, Moriya, is also a professional golfer.
The Harmon family is inextricably linked to golf. Claude Harmon Senior won The Masters in 1948 and was a Club Professional at Winged Foot and Seminole, two of America’s great courses. His son Butch is legendary in coaching circles, having coached Tiger Woods during his prime. Following in his father’s footsteps, Claude III currently coaches the world number one Dustin Johnson.
