TIGER WOODS

Tiger Woods is another step closer to a return to PGA Tour action after reports revealed that he is now partaking in extensive practice sessions.

According to Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte, who also revealed during Masters week that Woods was hitting his driver, the 40-year-old is gearing up his preparations for a return, which looks to be coming a lot sooner than people could’ve imagined.

“He’s really stepped it up,” said Rosaforte. “Early last week, he was involved in a series of 4-5 hour practice sessions at Medalist Golf Club in Florida, including the playing of some holes.

“I was told he looked great, he was talking to everybody in an upbeat mood, and he couldn’t have been happier.”

PGA Championship - Preview Day 3

Woods hasn’t played competitively since August 2015 at the Wyndham Championship, where he recorded his best performance of a wretched season, finishing T10.

At the Hero World Challenge in December, following two further back operations to the microdiscectomy he had in March 2014, Woods gave a bleak outlook on his future.

“I really don’t know ,” he said. “The hardest part for me is there’s really nothing I can look forward to, nothing I can build towards.

Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg didn’t comment on the latest reports revealed by Rosaforte, but did confirm during Masters week that the 14-time major winner had started hitting driver.
