– Cambuslang Golf Club receives bid worth a reported £9 million
– Members voted on the bid last night but result yet to be revealed
– Bid is second club has received in the last ten years

Cambuslang GC

Cambuslang Golf Club has been the subject of an alleged £9million bid from a housing developer that could see its members receive around £47,000 each.

Originally reported by local newspaper the Rutherglen Reformer, the story developed further last night (Thursday) as the club held an extraordinary general meeting to discuss the new offer from Barratt Homes.

Club captain John McBride had written to Cambuslang‘s 190 members asking them to attend the meeting to have their say on whether the offer should be accepted or not. Another option discussed was the possibility of the club setting up a sub-committee to deal with the matter, and then report back to the members at a future date.

bunkered.co.uk called the club this morning regarding the result of the vote, but Secretary and Treasurer Ian Kennedy told us the club had ‘no comment’ to make on any of our enquiries.

We understand, though, that the club is not happy that some of its members are leaking details to the local media, when they were specifically asked to keep it within the membership group.

Cambuslang subject of second bid

This current bid from Barratt Homes comes ten years after Cambuslang’s members voted 180-14 against a similar multi-million pound approach in July 2004.

That deal would have seen members receive around £34,000 each if the bid from Alexander Braidwood Ltd had been accepted, as developers look to get their hands on the land which sits close to the M74 extension, making it an attractive prospect.

Alexander Braidwood Ltd had offered to purchase a separate site and build another 18-hole golf course for the club to be based at, but the members chose to reject the proposal.
