A Premier League football stadium will be converted into a golf course as part of an exciting new initiative aimed at “inspiring a new generation of golfers.”

England Golf, the governing body of the amateur game, has collaborated with Stadium Golf Tour to open the doors of famous UK sporting venues for golfers.

West Ham’s London Stadium and Twickenham, the home of England rugby, will both be transformed into unique nine-hole golf courses for golfers to play in 2023.

Participants will tee off from different locations strategically placed around the stadiums, as well as having access to “The Clubhouse” which includes golf simulators and exclusive tours inside the venues.

The Stadium Golf Tour will be at Twickenham from June 8-11, MK Dons’ Stadium MK from July 6-9, and West Ham’s 60,000-capacity ground from October 12-15.

England Golf CEO Jeremy Tomlinson said: “We believe that playing in these iconic venues will not only create unforgettable memories but also inspire a new generation of golfers.”

Michael Wiggins, the President of Stadium Golf Tour, added: “We are excited to invite golfers and sports fans alike to join us in transforming these iconic stadiums into golfing havens.”

This is not the first time sporting stadiums have been used to provide a fresh and unique challenge for golf lovers.

Callaway have experimented with the idea of playing golf in large stadium venues Stateside in recent years. They have previously teamed up with Major League Baseball side San Diego Padres to convert their field into a temporary course known as “The Links.”

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, also see arena golf as an exciting way of exposing the sport to new audiences, with the highly-documented, stadium-based TGL golf league set to launch with a number of top PGA Tour stars in January 2024.
