Made your bold Open bets but still got a couple of quid in your account that you’re looking to part with?
Here are some outsider picks – all 50/1 or greater – who could be worth parting with a cheeky quid each way for.
(Odds correct as of Sunday, July 10).
Paul Casey – 50/1
Was the joint first round leader at Royal Troon back in 2004 with a five-under-par 66.
Zach Johnson – 50/1
He’s the defending Open champion. ‘Nuff said.
Matt Kuchar – 55/1
In great form of late. Last six results read: T3, 3, T6, T4, T46, T3
Andy Sullivan – 80/1
Fresh off a fantastic couple of weeks at the French and Scottish Opens. T30 on his Open debut last year.
Russell Knox – 80/1
Inside the world top 30 and the top Scot in the field. Go to be worth a bet – for sentiment if nothing else.
Ernie Els – 80/1
Play-off loser to Todd Hamilton in ’04 and T10 in 1997. He may be 46 but he knows his way around Royal Troon.
Graeme McDowell – 90/1
Awful showing in France but managed difficult conditions incredibly well at the Scottish Open. 90/1 looks great value for the Northern Irishman.
Danny Lee – 100/1
Like McDowell, Lee put together four impressive rounds in the tough Castle Stuart conditions.
Padraig Harrington – 100/1
Two-time Open champ who relishes the tough conditions expected in Ayrshire this week. Showed real glimpses of being back to his best at the Scottish Open.
Rafa Cabrera-Bello – 100/1
Having the season of his life on the European Tour and performed on the big stage finishing third at the WGC-Dell Match Play.
Soren Kjeldsen – 150/1
Ever since last year’s Irish Open win, Kjeldsen’s has continued on that upward trajectory. T7 at the Masters – could he go better at Royal Troon?
Colin Montgomerie – 200/1
How could you not fancy sticking a wee quid each way on Monty. The Scot battled through Final Open Qualifying at Gailes Links and on his home course, who knows…
