Wyndham Clark is the new US Open champion.

The 29-year-old American superbly overcame Rory McIlroy with an inspired final round showing to win his maiden major title at Los Angeles Country Club.

It was only a month ago that Clark won his first PGA Tour event at the Wells Fargo, but he now has his hands on his national championship trophy after showing nerves of steel to prevail on the back-nine.

His final round 70 featured numerous fearless par saves, including a 60ft two putt at the last to edge out McIlroy by one shot.

Here are 10 things Wyndham Clark can look forward to after his superb win…

US Open trophy

The one that matters most. These are the prizes careers are defined by and Clark has now etched his name into history.

Rather like the Claret Jug at the Open, the winner is not presented with the original trophy. The real trophy is preserved at the USGA Museum in New Jersey, so Clark receives a full-size replica for his 12 months as champion and then will be handed a smaller replica for the trophy cabinet.

Gold medal

Clark gets the coveted gold medal as well as a replica of the trophy. It has been tradition in America’s national championship for the winner to receive the gold medal since 1985. And the medal was redesigned in honour of Jack Nicklaus, the four-time major US Open champion, with the Golden Bear’s iconic swing engraved into the award.

Mega payday

Clark has earned $3.6million for his victory at Los Angeles Country Club, with the USGA flexing its muscles with its biggest ever prize payout. Clark’s winner’s sum is $450,000 more than Matt Fitzpatrick earned for his victory at Brookline in 2022.

Clark is also rewarded with…

100 Official World Golf ranking points

10-year US Open exemption

Five-year exemption into all major championships

Five-year exemption into The Players Championship

Automatic five-year exemption on PGA Tour

600 FedEx Cup points

7,200 Ryder Cup points
