A popular Scottish golf club has taken another huge step towards re-opening – almost five years after it closed its doors.
Eastwood Golf Club, on Glasgow’s south side, shut for what appeared to be the final time in 2019.
However, an ambitious bid to revive it has finally been given the go-ahead, with developers targeting a spring 2025 re-opening.
East Renfrewshire Council’s Planning Committee last week unanimously approved a revised application submitted by Broom Estates Investments LLP on behalf of Eastwood Estates.

The plans are a scaled-down version of the original application, rejected by councillors in November 2022, and include a 12-hole golf course, clubhouse, woodland retreat and approval for the construction of three houses.
Chairman Colin Whitelaw told bunkered.co.uk that the resurrection of the club would be a major boost for the local area.
“There was a huge social media backlash against the council’s decision against the original application,” he said. “That, along with the 47 letters lodged in support of our revised application, really demonstrated the demand from the community for this project.
“It is going to be a huge asset and we’re very excited to now push ahead. There’s a lot of work to be done but we’re ready to go.

“We have contractors lined up and ready to start work on the golf course in May at the earliest. We expect that to take four months and we’ll then allow it to be in ahead of opening in spring 2025.”
The new-look golf course will be a pay-and-play facility but with the option of an annual ticket, which Whitelaw is confident will be of particular appeal to former Eastwood members.
“I’ve already had several people email me to ask if they can sign up,” he added. “There is a huge amount of interest in what we’re doing.
“We’re determined that what we ultimately offer will be well above average and, more than anything else, an excellent experience.”
