Jay Monahan has temporarily stepped down as the PGA Tour’s commissioner to recover from a “medical situation”.

The 53-year-old, who replaced Tim Finchem in the PGA Tour’s top job in 2017, has found himself under intense scrutiny for the role he played in brokering a deal that has seen the PGA and DP World Tours align with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

And his tumultuous fortnight has ended with the release of a joint statement with the PGA Tour board to reveal what is expected to be a short-term absence.

“Jay Monahan informed the PGA Tour Policy Board that he is recuperating from a medical situation,” the statement read. “The Board fully supports Jay and appreciates everyone respecting his privacy.

“During Jay’s absence, Ron Price, Chief Operating Officer, and Tyler Dennis, Executive Vice President & President, PGA Tour, will lead the day-to-day operations of the PGA TOUR with the assistance of the great team Jay has built, ensuring seamless continuity.

“We will provide further updates as appropriate.”
