Calling Rory McIlroy wasn’t an option, so a ‘bush league’ lawyer’s letter had to do.
That is according to PGA Tour winner Robert Garrigus, who said last week’s letter sent to the Policy Board is part of the problem.
Lawyers representing 21 players demanded “full disclosure” on the circuit’s negotiations with private equity partners, but Garrigus believes there’s little point.
Chatting on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, the 46-year-old said: “You think Rory wanted to take my call and hear me bitch for 25 minutes?!
“There is no voice from the lower half of the membership and that’s more than the top players. There are more lower guys than there are top guys in the world.

“It’s warranted that we want a voice, but going about it with a letter from a lawyer is a bit bush league because it’s not going to matter regardless of what we say.
“The fact we have to go about it that way is the problem.”
Long has been the opinion that the PGA Tour favours the top players in the world, with discontent among ‘rank and file’ players at an all-time high.
PGA Tour veteran Chris Stroud said last week: “The Tour doesn’t care about you if you’re not in the top 30, and I learned quickly that I needed to take care of myself.”
The PGA Tour recently announced plans to advance to the next stage of investment negotiations, with its December 31 ‘framework agreement’ deadline looming.

But Garrigus claims players of his calibre have been on the sidelines ‘for a very long time’, despite believing he could “win an event next week”.
“There’s 200 some people on the PGA Tour… but on any given week I could whoop anybody’s ass, period.
“Every single one of those guys who has a voice and made $5 million in their career, could win next week. It may not happen because we don’t get as many chances, but it could still happen.
“The fact that all of us are sitting on the sidelines and have been for a very long time just because of the way the tour is run, is disconcerting.”
