Masters preview

We’re back to PGA Tour action this week with the RBC Heritage.

While it might feel like a come down after the excitement that was the Masters, the RBC Heritage is one of the PGA Tour’s designated events, meaning a pretty strong field at Harbour Town.

Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, and newly crowned Masters champ Jon Rahm are in the field as of Monday morning. It’s a field that doesn’t include Rory McIlroy, who withdrew on Monday, and is set to miss his second designated event of 2023.

The event’s new status means that it’s featuring probably its strongest ever field, with Scheffler making his debut, Rahm coming off the back of a Masters win, and Spieth making his title defence.

Last year, Spieth, who threatened to make a late run at the Masters, defeated Patrick Cantlay in a playoff.

The venue, Harbour Town, is something the players can look forward to. It features the PGA Tour’s smallest greens, which more than make up for its shorter yardage. On the final hole, the iconic red and white lighthouse stands over the green, a scene you’ll see plenty of this week.

The event has been sponsored by RBC since 2012. It was first played in 1969, with every tournament taking place at Harbour Town.

Here’s the full RBC Heritage preview.

The bunkered Bet

Patrick Cantlay

It’s difficult to predict how post-Masters fatigue will impact players this week, but Patrick Cantlay seems like a man who won’t be too badly impacted by it. A strong showing last week, coupled with a second place here last year makes him difficult to ignore.
